Naturally Alise's Blog Poetry Slam I

Hello all my readers and also to fellow poets! I want to try something to bring a little fun and interaction/networking of poets on the blogosphere. Every Tuesday I will put up a topic, word, or picture. Then I would like all the poets (well everyone actually) to pen a verse or two or ten about the particular subject. You can go in any kind of direction from the topic you see fit. It will be a good way to exercise your writing muscles and also to enjoy the work of others. Also feel free to drop the links to your blogs or websites so we can all get to know each other. Also, drop me emails to suggest topics or pictures. So, I will start off with today's topic with a piece I already have written, I will write a new one in the comments with you guys, just wanted to give you an idea of the concept:

SLEEP

I never sleep anymore.
Always wide awake and awar
e,
Luckily I dream with 3 eyes open
Fixed on magnificent endeavors
Can't have my dreams slept on...
Anyway how ya gonna fight life's battles with pajamas on?

Your turn! I can't wait to read you guy's pieces! EVERYONE is welcome!

KInd of corny but hey its late...

I roll over
And I see how sleep has taken you
Much the same way you took me
Quietly
Silently
Sweeping over me
Holding me captive
Yet freeing me entirely
Providing me with peace and the ability to
Totally let go
Wrapping me in its
Essence
And within its grasp
anything is possible
I love how sleep has taken you
Eyes closed, fluttering against your cheek
Hands gently reaching toward me
Because even in sleep
We are still
one….

Sleep is not with me
Dreams are moving from me
my mind is awake

Sleep
The Cousin to death,
So I've learned to sleep walk through life.
rest between lights,
nap between blinks,
afraid of the after life,
or missing out on life,
so I DVR'd my life.

Oh gosh, you guys are wonderful so far!

@Anonymous, not corny at all...
@sabrina, I think me and you are on the same wavelength!
@Words of wisdom, glad to see you here!!!! that DVR idea is so dope!

Exhausted but cannot sleep
...mind running in ellipses
(I'm too cool for circles)
Is an active mind,
an angel's playground?
in which I seesaw with divine rhymes
Swing on verses
and chase ideas through the clouds
...until I fall asleep.

Sleep

I am the hero they all love
I am the lover they all long for
I am the leader they all follow
I am the cause they all fight for
I am great, but not when I’m awake
I am a wonder, but only under covers
in my sleep, my great retreat
in dreams, I can do anything

Sweet slumber, take my hand
Lead me into the starry far reaches of my imagination
Place with in my reach the dreams that may come true
Envelop me in the softness of the sublime reenactments of my daily mundane.
Sleep, show me future as I rest from the now.
Set the stage for the intertwining of time and space right here within my small piece of the universe
Interpret my biggest fears in a way that I won't fully understand until I either die or...

wake up.

Peace... I am definitely down for the tuesday treats!

medicine cabinets
bear witness
to my desire
to close my eyes
and be rid of images
of you

of us
our love
your touch

cruel sleep!
tormented
more than
consciousness
ever could
teased me with
pictures of family
happiness
i saw our children.....

now medicine cabinets
bear witness
to my desire
to stay awake
never sleep....

never dream

Sleep: Come to bed baby...you've had a long day.
Me: I will, in a minute.
Sleep: I need you here now. What's more important than laying with me?
Me: Nothing. I just need to finish this last line.
Sleep: You and the words...it never stops. Come let me wrap you up. Let me do what I do. And more will come.
Me:Thank you love, just one more...

Sleep comes over, takes my hands in his kisses both my eye lids, takes me in his strong arms and whispers in my ear,

"Come with me now..."

Me: Yes dear

*tenderly relents in the glow of the laptop screen*

He is irresistible.
Bliss. Rapture. Gone.
Zzzzzzzz.

If I could close my eyes for two weeks I just might die.
To escape the hatred, the hectic life the burdens brought on by daily routines,
Covered in the shadows of dreams,
I think I need caffeine,
Because now I don't know how to act when everything is alright.
If I could I'd close my eyes for only two weeks.
And then I might be able to live.

Dear Sleep

YOU gets on my everlasting with yo "bad timing" having arse!

Just be popping up while I'm at work,
Smacking in the face on car rides,
Flirting with me while I'm watching tv,

Oh but when I'm ready to have a meeting with you... you arse ain't NEVA on time!

I don't know where we went wrong! We used to be the best of friends. I mean we were inseparable. Morning, noon or night..you were always there. And now...now you act like you hate me. I don't know what I ever did to you but this ish is just regotdamndiculous! You need to yo mind right for real!!!

I tried reasoning with you, bartering with you, hell I even tried forcing you...but you know what. I'm done. I'm thru wit you. I went above your head. Damn right I did it!

I went to the HNIC in the sky and you know what... HE agrees with ME! So BOOOYAH in yo face!!! And I want you to test my Christian Gangsta.... see what it be like if you don't show up on time tonight. Smoke in the City will be the least of your problems!!!

I've been slept on
Crept on,
Done dirt and then
wept on

At times it seems I should've
stepped on
but my pride wouldn't let me
and I repped on

With my swag high
and prepped on
thought i made the right decision
but I guessed wrong

Moms said mistakes happen
so i pressed on
Held my head high
and kept on

Got in position to be
the next on
so that I'd be awake
and blessed strong.

Sleep the one luxury I can rarely afford
A modern day superwoman,
Constantly grindin to keep movin forward
Black woman,
Playing the roles
Duality the legacy ingrained in my soul
Care taker
Baby maker
All that
Yet, never a faker
I take pride in my load
So onlookers should be wary
I aint invincible but
Still theres extra in my ordinary
so think twice before you take that last yawn.
Cause while I might not sleep
I guarantee I shouldn’t be slept on!

Ok, firstly, I am not worthy. Some of these poems r HOTTER than Lil Kim's drawers. So here is mine...

Sleep is my frenemy
There but not quiet near me
Eye lids heavy
Eyes burn hotly
Brain running speedily
Beta mode far clearly
Sleep has elusively
Escaped my grasp entirely
Dreams haven't been the case lately
Eyes green with envy
Why can't I sleep soundly?
Oh, cuz I'm on gmail infinitely.

GO TO BED!

Sleep?
That's what they doin' while I'm
pumpin' this midnight oil
people wondering what's going on
seein' the flashlights and candles
flickering in the room,
pen in hand and writing on my forearm
cause I'm using the paper to fuel the fire
nodding off cause I'm in need of some shut eye
but someone said sleep was the cousin of death
and since his uncle must be naptime
I can ill afford to be caught dozing
steadily going where no poet has gone before
or at least not in some time
in the meantime
I'm putting to sleep the doubts and babies that's making a bunch of noise
B-Dot's not one to blab
but on this blog, I got's to do it
until the sun comes up
and the caffeine runs out from drinking too much tea
about to be
calling them hogs
and writing poetry
in my
sleep

Gone are those nights where sleep came in easy waves
Almost like second nature
Now I’m consumed with thoughts and images of you and I
Imprinted on my mind merely to frustrate this
already pulsating need
I use my imagination to pacify my craving
Giving into it with visuals of carnal pleasure
Mental trysts captivated by the flawless warmth of your arms encircled around my gentle frame
If I’m dreaming....
you've been warned not to wake me.
Let me lay beneath a constellation outlined in your image
matching the brilliance of how I perceive your kiss to be....
My mind warps into timeless snapshots of
laughter, and tears
smiles and enchantment
Pulling me in with a perfect amount of seduction
and I beg not to be released
Unless it is into your arms I will fall....

sleep011409

sleep don't come easy to a weeping willow

afraid that dreaming will let me drown in the tears on my pillow

i use the bullsh1t i been through as fertilizer to help me grow

still in bloom, a two-lip that pushed through the concrete in the midst of the snow

my mind's desire for rest, feeds me lies behind closed eyes and sleep is the cousin to death

there I go...thought I dozed...

but it was just a long blink, I suppose...
