Naturally Alise's Blog Poetry Slam 2: Thirst

Welcome to the second blog poetry slam hosted by myself, Naturally Alise. The last slam was bananas!!! I was overjoyed with the participation, the variety and quality of the poetry that was produced. I felt so proud to be surrounded by such greatness! Any-hoo, today's word/theme is:

Got water?

THIRST

Below will be a poem I already have to give you an example of what to do, I will join you guys in the comments with a new piece. I can't wait to see the responses!!!

I nearly slid on your cunning linguistics
Every syllable whet my desire for each word to come
Oh yes, I was intrigued by your flow...
Or should I say I was impressed with the fluidity of your passionate parlance Riding at the crest of your high tide,
Intoxicated from your moon shining on me,
The gravity of your speech pulling waves of passion through my inner ear Crashing onto my desert island shore
Syllables ebbing and flowing on my memory banks,
Irrigating my inspiration…
I think I now have found my lyrical oasis
Quenching my thirst for poetry.

yup yup..its me again
My soul is dry
Aching for you
My body a fire
Hungry, longing
Parched
Spirit crying dryless tears of
dispair
Throat hot…constricted
Trying to reserve
To Conserve
In an effort to hold on
Waiting for you
To douse me,
Cleanse me
Quench me
Sooth me
Appease the
Thirst
That can be fulfilled
Only in your nearness
And created only in your
Absence….

oh and your poem... DAMN that was good!

I know this is paltry compared to yours…but here it is regardless.

Luscious lips
Lingering
Longing
For your moisture
Dryness within
Flaking on the surface
Waiting
Wishing
Wanting
Never appeased
You brought me to my knees
Dehydrated beyond comprehension
The moment of apprehension
Has brought our lips
Intertwined
In line
Insatiably
Interlocked
Quenching a thirst
That was deadly
Your lips have given me life

thirst

I need more
just give me some
any will do
I cant get enough
forever chasing you
and when I catch you
wrap my fingers around your soul
you slide through each space
leaving me empty and
without
you
so I try to get by
make do with less
using less to fill your void
but I’m drying up on the inside
cracking to the touch
crumbling under the weight of my loneliness
I lied, the others will never do
my thirst can only be quenched by you

My body craves the fluidity of the rhythm
My ears seek out the sultry in the song
My heart longs for the thrust of the beat
My dance, my dip, my give and my take, is the ultimate chase...

I am the thirst for the music.
Hey, Mr. DJ...satisfy my soul.

licking my lips in anticipation of what's to come...

thoughts of touching you makes my finger tips begin to go numb...

your existence is distant like the beat from this african drum...

Without you I feel heat stricken like the rays from a desert sun..

I tremble every time the manifestation of our bodies becoming one...

I gulp you down like a desert would inhale a sea...

I feel every little bit of you inside of me...

Flowing through my veins my soul catches your wave & rides it's rhythmic beat...

sweat dripping from my ebony essence quenching you from your head to your feet...

one glass of you feels me up & quenches me through ecstasy...

Some nice quotable lines there folks!

@anonymous,
"Thirst
That can be fulfilled
Only in your nearness
And created only in your
Absence…."

You ended that perfectly! Very nice.

@Dean,
Not paltry at all, I rather enjoyed your piece, especially:
Dehydrated beyond comprehension
The moment of apprehension

@eysqueen,
Girl, I am ridiculously digging that! Especially:
"make do with less
using less to fill your void
but I’m drying up on the inside
cracking to the touch"

@Pretty Brown Girl,
I know how much of a music lover you are so your poem hit the nail on the head:
"Hey, Mr. DJ...satisfy my soul": Nuff said!

@ODARA,
"I gulp you down like a desert would inhale a sea..." Girl, you so grown! Very niiiiiiiice !

she said i don't inhale what i can't see --
i touched her face and showed her my reflection
complete with sweat and imperfection
she twisted her sensuality like a J
and listened to what i had to say...

"the whatever i give you is not just for consumpion
I thirst just like you, don't make the assumption
that i don't breathe like you and inhale your skin,
if i'm ever going to drink you back in."

Aight so I'm mad busy today, but you know I had to leave my peace (aka foolishness).

Crunch crunch
Snap Crackle & Pop
Fizzzzzzz
What are those?
The sound of your hairhat
More Arid than the Sahara
Dryer than Ray Romano's jokes
More unmoist than Xmas fruitcake

THIRST... for some juice and berries
For some glowing soul
For some pink oil
Just...

THIRST

blend into the beach
to complement my see
play the lyre for you
ode you with my love song
anything to win you
wrap you in the red black & green
show you off to mama
yeah if i were a poet
i'd kidnap you
and spit words at the sky
praying they form a constellation

Hips swayin
Jazz playin
I'm jus sayin...
I need it.
Dose me up with the elixir of Gods
as i pray to be consumed beneath the heat of your touch.
Sweat drops
The bassline stops
and i inhale your aura
teasing my tastebuds with the sugary sweet of your essence.
Juices mingle
Spines tingle
and i'm drunk off my first shot
But I can't help it.
The more I drink,
the thirstier I become.
You tease me
now appease me
One more drip and i'm almost done
Taste it
Swallow
come back up for more
cuz mama has just begun...

Been thinking about it for a long time
Hoping that I would see it again
Almost wrecked when I passed by
In tears because I know it's not good for me
Especially when I'm trying to be good
Finally giving in.....
Pulled up, anticipating what it would feel like
Smell like
Taste like
Heaven

"May I take your order?"
"Can I have a large Orange Creamslush?"

What, what did you think I was talking about?

Did someone way SLAM???!!!

Um... so yeah.. I'm just seeing this and its 6am so.... Nice to meet you. I go by the name King James.. shouts to the DMV!

Hm…
I used to wish that my thirst for the Lord
Would eventually cure my thirst for the whore
About to burst from the chore
Of knee bending and staying prayed up
… when truth be told, I’d rather be layed up
With some soft thang, with one of her friends to join her
One pleasing my walls, the other grazing my corners
Sslowly begging me to warn her
Before the ecstasy shoots from the levee falling
She playing around steady stalling
Yet, I’m fcking up a heavy calling
Showers cleanse my skin
…when they’re done pleasing me
Conviction don’t wash off dat easily
Mama said I got people to save
And a ministry at stake
Must be what’s forcing me to hate
For today… right now…
It may just be too late
Lord, help me make some choices…
For now we turn the moans up
I cant stop the voices…

Body tingling, shaking, withdrawal, awakening, searching, touching, tasting, teasing, needs not met, body drenched in sweat. Heat, deep in my soul, burning fires never cold, cool I am, I will be, when this thirst is quenched inside of me.

Inexplicable drought from being away from you. My drug, you save me, create waves in me, softly, dampened my body, cooling me down, from the high I'm on so high I am. You saved me from death and now I'm free. You filled me up effortlessly. I'm satisfied the dry spell is gone, now I know I'll never be alone. Thirst

Thirst 012809
The beat of the butterflies in my stomach is a little off key today...

I think they're sick...

Flapping in right circles, like their left wing has been clipped...

They're dehydrated...

I weep for them, so from my eyes they can sip...

Hoping my body's water can nourish them to put their beat back on track...

If not...at least make them complete enough to fly from my mouth when I shout to freedom...

They're special to me and the whole world needs to see them...

A swarm of loving kindness flying from my smile without fears...

Because their malnutrition and thirst was quenched with my tears...
