Poetry Blog Slam 14 - Badu

Hey, this week let's just write a poem that is inspired by a song over to your left on the Erykah Badu playlist or anything from her catalog... Be good y'all, I'll drop a little something below as well.... hope to see your fabulous poems in the comments... Muah!

inspired by "Next Lifetime"

I'm a little sad.
I'm a little happy.
and mixed emotions weigh more.
than the sum of their parts.
so right now.
don't tell me.
to lighten up.

I never heard the song Certainly before this morning.. unless I'm just not remembering it. Peace.

certainly
yes, sure will
see that figure on some land
on some day
with the sum of two eyes
thinking of some way
to say some things
that have been some how
buried for some time now
and just maybe
through the rolling of the sum of two eyes
the twirling of some fingers
and the kicking of some rocks
and some deep swallowing
certainly...
some courage
will come from some where
yes, some deep place
resurrected and sum up
just some of the feelings
and a tongue and some teeth
will do some speaking
and some of the words would be...
the pain of wishing
that you were some one else
can't be summed up
in a month of sundays
Daddy, why did you leave us?
leave me?
Am I not someone worthy of love?
I should have been someone else…
certainly

(Orange Moon)

Walking.
Alone.
Relishing.

How good it is to be this free.

Directions change with the tides of time.
Ambitions carved by the rivers of circumstances.
Faithful light, shining ever brighter than before.

How good God is.
In these uncertain times,
He turns and Smiles on me as I continue my journey.

Walking.
Relishing.
No Longer Alone.

my 2 faithful awesome poets thanks you for blessing me with those verses... brilliant...

(Me)

funny how me still being here
being me
whilst loving you
for you
is all you ever wanted
but it's still not enough
and overstaying my welcome...
just ain't me.

"I'm trying to decide which way to go I think I made a wrong turn back there somewhere..."

Left or Right
Right or Left
Choose.
Well, I just feel straight
Today.
Yesterday.
Tomorrow.
Let this fork in the road
Veer further and further from me
But neither path is ever too far gone
No need to select either or
When both destinations are me
So when I stumble off my straight
Just free my mind and find my way
There will be a brighter day
"Didn't Cha Know"

*good topic Alise. I got to come back for one on "Orange Moon" because I just love that and I see you do too.

Inspired by Bag Lady

Issues that I can't let go of
Heartache that holds on like a cancer
Lovers from a past life
Baggage
Only way to relieve this back pain is to
let it go
Drop the Coach Purse full of anger
Set down the reusable grocery bag with the tears
Throw away the plastic bag of misery
Let it go

(Trying to keep up with the slams. This doesn't come naturally to me. :)

Inspired by Appletree...

You wanna taste the fruit of my mind?
Then you gotta respect what's mine.
My thoughts, my heart, my time.
My fruit is food for the soul that shines,
but you have to pick it in its prime.
And if you think you're worthy of mine,
You gotta know how to feed my mind.
Pretty words not worth my time.
The depth of you is what I'm trynna find.
But can you deal with this mind of mine?

I pray you grow to understand...
the nuance of loving self, without a man...
the glory to be had in having your own...
not settling and then telling him to CALL TYRONE...
eating soul fruit from your own APPLE TREE...
under the ORANGE MOON...
conversing on things yet to be...
baby, DIDN'T CHA KNOW the world turns ON & ON without cause or pause in rhythm...
your wisdom seen through GREEN EYES only grows through lessons learned BACK IN THE DAY...
as for ME...I WANT YOU...
but I'm CLEVA enough to know that it just might beNEXT LIFETIME!!
